It’s not easy being a house that eats people.
Zaria was just a normal woman, living a simple life—until demons burst through her door and ate her heart. Reborn from tragedy, Zaria rises from the ashes as a Core, but with a twist. A rare mutation has turned her into a Mutant Core, destined to explode unless she forms a bond with a human witch to become a Striga.
Her mutation? Legs.
With the power of a full dungeon compressed into a walking house that is her body, Zaria sets out on a journey to find her Striga and avoid detonation. Along the way, she battles demons, builds her dungeon, and feeds her mimic mobs.
This is not the life she once knew, but it’s the one she’s determined to make work, no matter who she has to walk through to get there.

Okay, I rather do like this author’s take on dungeon core type characters. Some of his ideas are new and, he does think out of the box.
Narration is great and, she does a lovely job as usual. I have listened to many books done by her and, do find her voice (and her voices she does) pleasant to listen to and clean.
Stay safe and out of this storm hitting the Atlantic Provinces folks.

Fast download and competently read.
Decent take on the dungeon core idea. I wish the core was not turned into a sociopath when its humanity is cut away but that is part of the genre.

No issues with the torrent and good quality audio.
Be ye wary: There may be spoliers below:
I’m on the fence about this one. There is obviously a good deal of suspension of disbelief with the premise of a person being reincarnated as a dungeon, and I think Alex Raizman does a better job of it than, for instance, Khenal. Plus, I’ve always had a soft spot for mimics (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLinJSw_KYGAc_wYt5tWfq262SHensvEXw if you should have any doubts on this point). And THIS dungeon isn’t immediately trying to be lawful good, which is a thing that kind of stretches suspension of disbelief to the snapping point for me.
That said, I have some problems. The whole ‘lesbian dungeon’ thing is very off-putting, once again in the suspension of disbelief sense. The idea that a dungeon is just a human in the shape of a house that thinks like a human, feels like a human, sees the world as a human, but has none of the things that humans do those things with just doesn’t… WORK, I think. The lost memories and forgotten customs are GOOD… retaining EVERYTHING ELSE except a body* (not asterisk) is not. A dungeon should not think or act like a human, even if it CAN walk like one once a day.
The net effects is I keep listening, always on the razor edge between ’screw this, this is stupid’ and ‘but the witch has a spork! I wanna know what happens next!’.
Lest it be thought otherwise, I think this is actually a GOOD attempt, and part of my issue with the story is that it is difficult for me to sufficiently suspend disbelief to be able to accept the plot elements. But a lot could have been done better, and probably would have been if the author had taken a step back and stopped to think before typing on.
(based on extant listening)
Narration: 8
Story: 6
Personal Reaction:5
Arbitrary rating: 6.5-ish
Suggestion: If you like the sub-genre, give it a chance, especially if you like mimics. After all, as far as I’ve seen, you don’t have a lot of choices. Pass if you have trouble accepting extreme suspension of disbelief or don’t like your houses to be lesbians.

Now I’ve finished actually listening to it I thought it worth coming back and clarifying some things.
The story’s needle continues to constantly waver between ‘this is stupid’ and ‘I want to know what happens next’. The author seems to have forgotten that the central character is NOT a woman anymore and seems to have an obsession with characters swearing upon various divine genitalia. One of the worst sins committed is presenting you with terminology and situations that are never explained then expecting you to understand. This even extends to the characters in the story who often automatically understand things that are never explained.
All that said, these are TECHNICAL problems. Problems with execution. But underneath there actually is a decent story and a decent plot and I sort of wish there were a second book so I can find out what happens next. I’m going to increase my personal reaction from 5 to 6.
