People talk a lot about the problems with intensive farming. But the problem isn’t the adjective. It’s the noun. Around the world, farming has been wiping out vast habitats, depleting freshwater, polluting oceans and accelerating global heating, while leaving millions undernourished and unfed. Increasingly, there are signs that the system itself is beginning to flicker. But, as George Monbiot shows us in this brilliant, bracingly original new book, there is another way.
Regenesis is an exhilarating journey into a new possible future for food, people and the planet. Drawing on the revelatory, rapidly advancing science of soil ecology, Monbiot shows how the hidden biological universe beneath our feet could transform what we eat and how we grow it. He travels to meet the people who are unlocking these methods, from the fruit and vegetable growers who cultivate pests as well as potatoes; through producers of perennial grains who are liberating their fields from ploughs; to the scientists pioneering new forms of protein and fat that can be cooked into rich golden pancakes and much, much more. We start to see how the tiniest life forms in the soil might help us save the living world, allowing us to produce abundant, cheap, healthy food while returning vast swathes of land to the wild.
Here, for the first time, is a profoundly hopeful, appetising and exciting vision of food: of revolutionary cultivation and cuisine that could nourish us all and restore our world of wonders.

What absolute bs from Monbiot. You can’t feed the planet without including animals in that food chain. Yet more vegan propaganda.

Seems as though the book was only uploaded today, doubt you have had time to listen. I have lived and worked on a beef farm most of my life and can see that there are huge problems with rearing livestock for food. You are only as old as the last time you changed your mind!

It matters not. George is part of the newest breed of climate change deniers who cling to a mass human awaking & hail Mary, not yet invented Technological saves like they assume in the fantasy IPCC pathways. If you are not familiar with these gentler IPCC pathways you must read the mouse print to learn about the assumed CO2 removal & sequestering technology. The scale requires an industrial build-out of many hundreds of billion$ of dollars - who is paying for it? Yes there are a few CO2 removal projects running, but it don’t matter because the scale needed to would be monumental. Why are all passenger jets not supersonic? That tech is over 50 years old, but the Concord only flew for decades because it was subsidized big time. Modern airliners are built for fuel efficiency. If you understand the paper below you know it matters not.

**10C warming locked-in**
“New research from eminent climate scientist Prof James Hansen and colleagues suggests a planet killing event. This is based on current CO2 levels in the atmosphere, not on future emissions. ‘Eventual global warming due to today’s GHG forcing alone – after slow feedbacks operate – is about 10°C.’ Collapse is inevitable.”

It’s going to be much worse than collapse, but you’ll never hear the likes of Monbiot say it. He needs to feed his readers a steady diet of climate hope [BS] or else he’s out of business. IMO, pimping false hope is the cruelest cut of all.

I have been saying this over and over since the 1980’s and no one is catching on. The ONLY problem we face with food, water, pollution, stress is POPULATION. Why are people so closed minded that they cant understand that we are WAY overpopulated. We need to keep letting our populations drop until they reach 1900 levels and maintain that. We did just fine with that population, and with todays technology……….

Hogweed, we could literally feed every single person on the planet right now. There’s enough, capitalism and other forms corporatism theow away food rather than share it. Even if the population doubled, with plant based ag, we could continue to meet everyone’s needs. I’m not saying I want the population to double, just that food scarcity is a myth.

@hogweed
you can see how 8 billion Human population PLUS 80 billion farm animals is worse than humans alone ye?
