Thanks, Dreamkiller. Ronan Farrow has done some important work in this area. However, it would be absurd to suggest that Weinstein’s abuse of his position was a “story only whispered about” when it was openly the source of a great deal of winking, ribald “humour” for many years - including “jokes” from a host of the Oscars. Hollywood has always been a rape factory, which is revealed by the hypocritical complicity of Weinstein’s peers.

caesar963, I respect where you’re coming from, but it’s a bit of a misunderstanding. The Oscar joke, for example, was for most of the country way early in the morning and I’m not sure even televised except for maybe L.A. Aside from that, Seth McFarlane’s joke had the feel of inside baseball and most people probably took it (as I did…I’m a big movie nerd and follow these things) more as a cheap fat joke like what would be on Family Guy.
You’re right that there were people over the years who talked about Harvey. I was aware of his rep and I’m on the east coast of the U.S. It was usually from people like Courtny Love or Rose McGowen, who the Hollywood press sorta would dismiss as “oh, another sad rehab alum.”
So I’m just saying I would agree that “whispered” is probably correct since those with anything to lose never spoke up. Until Ronan Farrow, I guess. Then we remembered the Seth McFarlane joke, the accusation from Rose McGowen and the “stories” about which Courtney Love hinted.
I completely agree with your last sentence. That no one has gotten to the truth about the pedophilia in Hollywood is astounding. Even now.

What McFarlane said could be viewed, perhaps, as an inside reference, although it’s an event that gets a lot of media coverage. Prior to that, references to Weinstein’s conduct had featured on two separate occasions on the comedy, 30 Rock. There’s an article about how it was a particularly open secret in a Daily Telegraph article that I recall (plenty of others too, of course).

The main stream media protects their Hollywood, Democratic supporters by burying stories about the rapes and sexual abuse.
Weinstein, Edpstein, Matt Lauer, Spacey, et al.
Many in Hollywood knew, but were more concerned with their next movie then reporting these sexual predators. Hypocrites all.

It’s not just the famous or infamous who prey upon people , many times it is the system itself that is corrupt cronies who are more interested in their own position than the job they are supposed to do no matter how much you pay them.
