Thrilling, inspiring and informative page-turner.’ Walter Isaacson, author of The Code Breaker
You know what went wrong.
This is the untold story of what went right.
Few were ready when a mysterious respiratory illness emerged in Wuhan, China, in January 2020. Politicians, government officials, business leaders and public-health professionals were unprepared for the most devastating pandemic in a century. Many of the world’s biggest drug and vaccine makers were slow to react or couldn’t muster an effective response.
It was up to a small group of unlikely and untested scientists and executives to save civilization. A French businessman dismissed by many as a fabulist. A Turkish immigrant with little virus experience. A quirky Midwesterner obsessed with insect cells. A Boston scientist employing questionable techniques. A British scientist resented by his peers. Far from the limelight, each had spent years developing innovative vaccine approaches. Their work was met with scepticism and scorn. By 2020, these individuals had little proof of progress. Yet they and their colleagues wanted to be the ones to stop a virulent virus holding the world hostage. They scrambled to turn their life’s work into life-saving vaccines in a matter of months, each gunning to make the big breakthrough - and to beat each other for the glory that a vaccine guaranteed.
A number-one New York Times bestselling author and award-winning Wall Street Journal investigative journalist, Zuckerman takes us inside the top-secret laboratories, corporate clashes and high-stakes government negotiations that led to effective shots. Deeply reported and endlessly gripping, this is a dazzling, blow-by-blow chronicle of the most consequential scientific breakthrough of our time. It’s a story of courage, genius and heroism. It’s also a tale of heated rivalries, unbridled ambitions, crippling insecurities and unexpected drama. A Shot to Save the World is the story of how science saved the world.

There are a lot of Covid statistics and data out there but no one ever seems to point out the following numbers for attendance to Emergency Care and deaths of sequenced and genotyped Delta variant Covid-19 patients in England, as delineated by vaccination status.
This data is sourced from reported deaths within 28 days of NHS Emergency care attendance and admissions, published as ‘SARS CoV 2 variants of concern and variants under investigation in England technical briefings’ and are available on UK Government servers and covers the period of February 1st 2021 through to September 12th 2021.
Your odds of dying from the Coof if you end up in an English hospital might be calculated as follows…
14 days post 2nd vaccine dose: 157,400 Patients in E R care for Covid of which there were 1,613 Deaths or a 1.024% mortality rate.
Unvaccinated: 257,357 Patients in E R care for Covid of which there were 722 Deaths or a 0.280% mortality rate.
As of the 17th of September 2021 the UK government has stopped reporting this data,
wonder why?

@leadingnorth what you’ve got there is a snapshot. That’s like looking out of the window, seeing it’s snowing, and concluding that snow is the only weather that exists.
How about the full statistic of vaccinated vs unvaccinated deaths in the UK since january this year.
37.4% of deaths amongst unvaccinated people involved Covid-19 compared to 0.8% amongst vaccinated people.

Just the facts Jack… with the source.

Remember guys…make sure to get vaxed! Otherwise you may get someone who had been vaccinated SICK. Sounds like PETER GRIFFIN :u/

@leadingnorth you’re also ignoring the report you just linked to, which said that vaccination was associated with vastly reduced rates of admission.
You also failed to mention that there were only more deaths in those over 50. Those under 50 had 1/3 as many deaths as the unvaccinated. Weird. It’s almost like…old people are mostly vaccinated now so the majority of cases, deaths, and data at all are going to be vaccinated.
It’s almost like, as @Jack_Milad said, we’d need more data to give a more comprehensive view… If you don’t like that, then the statistical thing to do is compare the ratio of cases and the ratio of deaths and see if the vaccine has any effect, what’s called an ANOVA test. Though who am I kidding, you don’t know what that means…

@leadingnorth
“no one ever seems to point out …”
Actually, antivaxxers have lists of crap like this they post and repost at every opportunity, and any rebuttals or explanations are merely proof of a great cover-up/conspiracy, or that we are all “sheeple”. Very wearisome.

Excellent arguments Gweilo, really cutting edge and down to the point. You almost had me… rebutted there.
