At the turn of the 20th century European and Russian Zionists voiced a desire to establish a Jewish State in Palestine with Jews as the majority population. However, 90% of the population in Palestine was indigenous Palestinians, causing Zionists to devise a plan to colonize Palestine and expel them. Instead of being well-behaved victims when Zionist militias began implementing the plan, Palestinians resisted. To counter the resistance Zionist militias became more aggressive resulting in the expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians, the destruction of 531 Palestinian villages, multiple massacres, and the killing of 10,000–15,000. Yet, to the world, Zionists framed themselves as the victims.

Evidence shows how past and current aggression of Zionists, including the military tactic of disproportionate collective punishment of civilians, is the root of the on-going Arab-Israeli conflict. This tactic was voiced by founding military and political Zionist leaders who said in 1948, “We have to go for a series of collective punishments even if there are children living in the houses” and “we need a cruel and brutal retaliating policy, we have to be accurate in time, place and number of dead. If we know that a family is guilty, we should be merciless, and kill the women and the children as well…there is no room for checking who is guilty and who is not.”
