I’ll check this out. But I do wonder about “America won a previous twilight struggle”…
America didn’t “win” sh1t.

What almost every war teaches us is that no war is ever won. There is only uneven distribution of losses. As for “America,” the only predictable observation is that its military-industrial complex goes to to external war, each time it is overwhelmed by a sense of internal quandary!

The Western system - US & Eur - did emerge victorious against the extreme ideologies of the last century. When the decaying ideological states ignominiously collapsed, & the borders were opened, people couldn’t wait to escape the oppressive orbit of the tyrannical systems. The command economies could no longer command any people to remain. Now that such ideology is essentially moribund as a physical force tradition, it’s all abt some species of international piracy, operated by devolved erstwhile ideologues.
And we all sternly disapprove & shake our heads at piracy in these here environs.
Kennedy was always talking abt “this twilight time,” come to think of it.
