The year is 3326. I recommend this series to everyone I meet with even the slightest interest in sci-fi novels but the biggest hurdle most people face is simply starting it without being intimidated by how incredibly long it is. Everyone I know who has actually gotten through a few chapters ended up reading the whole series and loving it. If you’ve enjoyed the Foundation series, the Culture series, the Dune series, or the Hyperion series, then you’ll probably enjoy this. It’s my favorite out of all those. It’s definitely not the conceptually deepest sci-fi ever written and has plenty of flaws to criticize but it’s still a fun escape into a thankfully non-dystopian future.
For anyone new to this series, this is book #7 so don’t start with this. You’ll be so damn lost. Start with “Pandora’s Star.” It’s technically book #2 but everyone agrees that book #1 (Misspent Youth) sucked hard while also having almost no connection to the rest of the series. The other six books are all very closely interconnected, sharing many characters, settings, and plot lines (none of which are from book #1).
I’ve been scouring the net for this twice daily for weeks after the epub got leaked early so thank you very much Mr. Triforge.
