Just a heads-up, this version of the story is alleged to be a ChatGPT (or similar “AI”) generation, either originating with Mia Ballard or, as she claims, the editor/friend who revisioned it. It was self-published as-is (with stolen cover art, to boot).
An imprint of Orbit is releasing the title in April, so we shall see if the writing differs and if the coinciding audiobook is re-recorded (the same narrator is currently credited).

A ChatGPT creation, eh? I’m not sure about that. Getting a long story out of ChatGPT that’s also CONSISTENT is more work than actually sitting down and writing a story without it, and there are certain themes that ChatGPT will outright refuse to ‘write’ about. There might be some LLM usage SOMEWHERE in the book’s pedigree but it is highly unlikely to have been written by ChatGPT.
On the other hand, we can be certain that if it WAS written by ChatGPT it will be worth listening to for how utterly hilariously bad and full of errors and inconsistencies it is. Editor or not. I kind of want to listen to it now to find out, though this isn’t really my kind of story.
