It is extremely rare when an author of a long-running series dies & another writer takes up the series & keeps up the quality. There is a tendency of the new writer to merely take the defining characteristics of the characters & hone in on them, without creating a sufficiently good plot & narrative that properly reflects the quality of the original author. Usually even the original author tends to caricature his main characters after a number of books (Jack Reacher, Alex Delaware, etc). Few can maintain the 3-dimensional freshness of the characters like Rex Stout did from the late 30s through the late 60s.
Starting at age 49(!), Rex Stout wrote something like 72 Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin novels, novellas & short stories. In every one, he never lost the freshness of his team.
Robert Goldsborough is one of the rare authors who has come at least very close to keeping Nero & Archie alive & interesting. I’ve read all of the Stout books several times in my life, but only several of the Goldsboroughs. Thanks greatly for putting them all together. It is much appreciated & I expect I have some pleasure to look forward to.

Rex Stout was a genius. Nero Wolfe was a genius. This writer is a hack and these books are awful. Ditto for the narrator. Please don’t waste your time on these and if you have never tried the real thing then do so and you are in for a treat.
