This books were written in the 1920’s so this might help—
Queen Lucia, follows Mrs. Lucas (—Lucia— to her most intimate friends) who resides in the village of Riseholme, a pretty Elizabethan village in Worcestershire, through a lengthy and often hilarious campaign to derail the career of a would-be rival to the throne of cultural arbiter often aided and abetted by her friend George Pillson
It is a satire of the pretensions and foibles of provincial middle-class life in Britain in the 1920s and ’40s.and if you like BBC’s Keeping Up Appearances you’ll enjoy this series

The BBC series is only three episodes and mixes a bit of Queen Lucia with the middle of Mapp and Lucia.
I enjoyed it - but you have to accept the changes they’ve made. It looks beautiful - you can see the money they spent on it. And they recreated Mapp’s Garden Room perfectly (the original was destroyed by a bomb in WWII).
I’ll always prefer the two Channel 4 1980s series though
