Left Out is the first full account of Labour’s recent transformation and historic defeat.
The 2017 parliament began with Labour on the precipice of power and its left-most fringe - for so long alienated within its own party - closer to government than it had ever been. It ended with them even farther away than they started.
From the peak of Jeremy Corbyn’s popularity and the shock hung parliament of 2017 to Labour’s humbling in 2019 and the election of Keir Starmer, Left Out draws on unrivalled access throughout the party and to both leaders’ inner circles to provide a blistering narrative exposé of the Labour Party during one of the most tumultuous and significant episodes in its history.
It reveals a party riven by factionalism and at war over ideology, then incapacitated by crisis and indecision. From the plotting of the break-away Independent Group to the inaction and despair over accusations of anti-Semitism, from complaints of sexual harassment and bullying to foiled coups and furious disagreements over Brexit, the listener is in the room as tempers fray and tensions boil over, as sworn enemies forge unlikely alliances and lifelong friendships are tested to breaking-point.
At the heart of the book is Corbyn himself, a man whose like had never been seen at the top of British politics - and is unlikely to ever be seen again. Heroised for his principles by some, derided as an idealist by others, the loyalty and hatred he inspired changed not only the party but the nation.
Intimately drawn and brilliantly told, Left Out is the revelatory inside account of how Labour became the party it is today and of the greatest experiment seen in British politics for a generation.

Does sound intriguing (well done on the speedy upload). It’s sad to reflect on Jeremy’s rabbit in the headlights posture on Brexit - and so much else. A stunning, failed opportunity. An error based on silly ideology - and which played right into the hands of the “boss” class.
Of course, the less said about anti-Semitism & Momentum, the better…

Labour would have won the 2017 election if the Blairites hadn’t sabotaged the party’s campaign from the inside. Now we’re suffering this incompetent and heatless Tory government under Bojo.
Well done those people.

Jeremy & co operated as their own agents of self-sabotage. The only thing at which they excelled.

Jeremy Corbyn was a poor leader in many respects, but he was certainly no further left than Michael Foot, and the poor Conservative showing in 2017 reflected that party’s own internal incompetence, not a resurgence of interest in other parties.
As J K Rowling says, the Conservatives need a leader who is either a bigot or a buffoon: it took them a while to discover the current clown.
The fact is, having entirely lost Scotland a majority Labour government is now almost impossible in the UK.
I shall give this novelette a try:- daenigma’s posts are rarely fatuous - but I’m going to need a deal of convincing after so fanciful a preamble.

Looks interesting, I’m Jewish and was a supporter of Corbyn, as far as antisemitism goes things got messy for sure but neither Corbyn or the Labour Party was antisemitic in my opinion and experiance, far from it. As a Scot they have completely lost the youth and the political momentum. The clp’s are in general toxic and stagnent but any attempt to re-energise them is met with hostility and shut downs so its no wonder the young turned to the SNP, who shrewdly pivoted to a center-left political stance when new labour repeatedly let scottish voters down.
@pryderi Scottish Independence is inevitable now, just a question of when but in reality Scotland rarely has an impact on the outcome of UK general elections which is one of the main reasons that independence is so appealing to Scots.

Well…
Many Jewish people (and others) were extremely offended at Corbyn’s support of a vile, anti-Semitic mural, which was like something torn from the pages of Julius Streicher’s ‘Der Stürmer’ publication, at the height of Nazism.
Then there was the investigation and bullying of Labour MPs (who happened also to be Jewish) when they complained of inveterate anti-Semitism. The substance of their serious complaints was of secondary importance.
Also, Ken Livingstone’s repeated comments (likening a Jewish journalist to a Nazi concentration camp guard; & “Hitler was a Zionist!”) - and his slippery prevarications - one instance might be dismissed as a mistake.
And the Corbynite deputy leader, whom Starmer had to fire, Rebecca Long-Bailey, thought that George Floyd’s killing was - by the usual absurd, circuitous, conspiracy route - the fault of the Jews.
Have any of these bigoted eejits ever cracked open a history book? Or any book, for that matter?
