The humans are a MegaCancer. All cancers grow until they can’t. Other than the odd statistically insignificant individual nobody’s voluntarily giving up the goodies. As net energy per captia continues to decline many will try & spin their declining lifestyles as intentional degrowth, but it’s really just making a virtue of necessity.
There’s no historical precedent for intentional degrowth because it’s contrary to the laws of biology (evolution) & physics (thermodynamics).
I’ve crunched the numbers more times than I can recall. It’s impossible to replace fossil fuels with so called alt energy. Not even close. Solar only produces 1% of total electricity & electricity only makes up 20% of total world energy demand - do the math. The other 80% is mostly natgas & oil & mostly for transportation - do the math.
The other big elephant is that climate change is in runaway mode. Even if all the humans disappeared overnight, it would only slow it down. Of course, we’re not stopping or even trying to slow down, nor will we. Another decade or so & the dozens of already underway & unstoppable reverse positive self reinforcing feedback loops will be the final nail for homo sapiens sapiens.
This book is a gimmick & it’s arguments a lie. There is no cut more cruel than to give people false hope. Shame.

Speak for yourself - you may be MegaCancer, but some of us are antibodies, cells (leukocytes) and even chemotherapeutic agents (like the author).
Education and awareness makes the difference - minimalist lifestyle for over a decade - I really don’t miss a thing!

If you’ll watch renewables you’ll see continuing growth, supposed to reach 60% in 2050 for a net zero global human-caused emissions of CO2.
