  I adored this novel when I was in my teens. But then it was made into so many films, and so many tv series, and so many radio dramas - that by the time I was revisiting it at college it seemed a little stale.
  I let it go for several decades, until someone pointed me at John Sutherland’s take on the contradictions and anomalies in the narrative (is Pip an unreliable narrator?) which freshened it up considerably for me.
  It’s probably time I gave it another hearing.

  (PS. Good point about the need to keep seeding. I almost always stay around for a 2x rating, and for classics it’s more often 5x. For rarities that I think not enough people are getting access to my record is currently 32x. That was a Celine, I think.)

  You know me Caesar, with Dickens it’s hard to pick a favourite, but this is one - like Pryderi - to which I’m long overdue a visit. It’s one I find I think I know, and then discover something new each time. And Jarvis, well ’nuff said’, just a fantastic narrator ;)

  Speaking of contradictions and anomalies .. the Martin Jarvis reading was first published on cassette in 1984 for a company called “Audio Partners”, it even won an Earphone Award:

  Licenses for audiobooks expire about every 7 years, it has been republished since then by numerous companies who re-licence it for the next period. That Audible calls it “only from Audible” is funny given its promiscuous publishing history. Great book and classic performance.

  I second Koshuyawa’s comment…I hate that “only from Audible” as well as the “this is Audible” particularly when it’s left on uploads. Audible Bought Brilliance Audio/BBC America and slaps on those tags.
