It was an interesting setting, the summery pretty much sets it up to be that way. The story is mostly about a monopoly/corruption and how a colony is trying to get out from it. This could have taken place in the 1800s.
When you are done reading it the story feels small, even the narrator makes it feel small/unimportant.
