i know that nobody OWNS those two words, but I just feel uncomfortable seeing them on another book.

It’s not just you. It was an unwise - and confusing -editorial decision to recycle Douglas Adam’s title.
There’s no excuse for it.
If an author can produce 60,000 or so words for a novel, you’d think they can come up with a couple of new words for a title.

Anybody who ever played Elite knows that Mostly Harmless is one of the stages in combateer statuses, on his way to Elite. So if anybody claims right to those two words, it’s an ancient game from almost half a century ago.

HHGTTG was originally released in 1978 as a radio play. The first game in the Elite franchise was released in 1984. Given that Mostly Harmless wasn’t released as a novel till 1992 and the fact that the combat status was probably just a joke at the expense of low ranking military personnel, it is a hard like to draw. It still feels odd to have a sci-fi novel with that name though, as it is hard to imagine anyone in the business of sci-fi writing wouldn’t be aware of Douglas Adams’ work.

Thing is the book art and everything smacks of an Elite computer game book spin-off. And obviously someone got the rights from David Braben’s company. I really cant see the huge kerfuffle. I immediately recognised it from Elite games perspective, not HHGTTG.
