Give me a break,I’m neither European or American, but we can all see America is dying, it’s imploding from within, You’ve got Maniacs on both sides each condemning the other, when If you really look at it the so called left wing is really so far right in comparison to most reasonable countries it ridiculous. Why would any reasonable person argue against universal Healthcare, people in America regularly go bankrupt because they have to pay exorbitant money to cure their illness.

Ah, here, give us a chance - we’re only doing our best! Like everywhere else, we have our problems. For inst, we grapple with intractable challenges, like being the wealthiest continent on the planet - and the wealthiest continent in human history.
Problems like having the strongest middle class, which provides protection against economic downturns. Europe typically endures economic stresses better than most areas of the world, incl the US. Following the global economic recession in 2009, Europe suffered less catastrophic financial damage than the US.
That, and being the best-educated continent, the healthiest continent, having the world’s largest & wealthiest trading bloc, etc. etc.
Y’know, all those objective measures & indicators…
That’s hardly a reason to enviously refer to us as trash.

He writes for National Review, a pretty staid, Republican propaganda outlet, so the author’s opinion is consistent. I will observe their editorial board very reluctantly endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 as the only possible option for anyone with a brain over Trump. First time EVER they endorsed anyone other than the GOP candidate since Lincoln. For what it’s worth, that showed some character.

As a European, I completely agree with the author. I wish Europe had the tolerance and charity to build a wall on its border, invade every country that might have a bit of oil and have their police force freely shoot black people in the back whenever they feel like it. If only we could find a deluded billionaire to elect as president we could all have Chloroquine for breakfast as soon as next year!

If I had one friend in Europe — and I have many all over Europe — who even remotely felt the things described in this book, I might give it a chance. However, each looks at the U.S. in horror. Our discriminatory health system, how we turn our backs when police and vigilantes murder minorities, the absurd delusion that a wall will protect us, and on and on.
Most Americans reject Europe because they have no first-hand knowledge of life in France, Britain, Sweden, Germany, or any European country. If every American spent six months in Europe, living as Europeans do, they’d come back clamoring to be, as this author puts it, “Eurotrash”.

When I came to the US a couple of decades back (from Ireland), I assumed there would be universal health care within a decade or so. Two tops. And greater income equity. Nope. And we got Trump. And unfortunately the police force over here does not reflect the charming characters of The Rookie …

European speaking here… I’ve got no problem with the USA (apart from an orange clown formerly residing in the Withe House and his followers…).
Why does it always have to be the way that someone is better than the other? Wouldn’t it be better to take the positive things of both sides and make it the best?
But noooooo, we have to bash the one thing to make the other look good. Way to go concerning a friendly relationship between two sides…
