Here is a rarity for Doctor Who fans like myself who simply want everything that has ever existed in audio in their collection: the audio track from the webcast of The Scream of the Shalka.
I created this by stripping the audio from the motion comic. It works out fine as an audio drama and you don’t need the visuals. This is probably because it was first released as an audio drama and then turned into the Flash animated comic.
This is unique in Doctor Who as the only audio release that features the “Shalka” Doctor,. The “Shalka” Doctor was going to be the Ninth Doctor until the BBC series was released in 2005. It is interesting to speculate where the series would have gone with Richard L. Grant as the Ninth Doctor.
As such, this audio drama is not considered canonical by many sources, although others simply place it in the Ninth Doctor’s timeline before meeting Rose. It is the only instance of the “Shalka” Doctor that exists. Oddly, this also has been released as an audio book, which makes matters even more confusing.
Frankly, this is a pretty average Doctor Who release and not anything special, but I’ve seen people looking for it in various chat boards. So, download this and put it with your other audio webcasts!
Enjoy!

Scream of the Shalka was originally released by the BBC as a six part animated feature to commemorate Doctor Who’s 40th anniversary in 2003. It also served to announce the “official” Ninth Doctor in the form of Richard E. Grant. Unfortunately, Shalka had already been commissioned, recorded, and animated just prior to September 26 announcement that we had all been waiting for - Doctor Who was returning to tv - which relegated the REG Doctor to an “alternate” Doctor.
This is the last of the “Classic” style Doctor Who stories produced by the BBC. Sadly, the decision was made to simplify the storytelling and to make it more marketable for a less-demanding audience when it returned to television in a barely recognizable format and an even less recognizable Doctor. For those of you who want a glimpse at what Doctor Who could have been like in the 2000s, give Shalka a go and (hopefully enjoy the REG Doctor because he was - in my opinion - utterly brilliant).

One of those “could have beens” in the history of Doctor Who, right?
