@kfn1019
All thanks go to you! Sharing is caring :)
whisper…are these two new ones the same?

Applause :))
Yeah, they are the same, so this is the good one.
Thank you for sharing!

Many thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for the upload, can we get a bit of descriptions for the books as well part of the upload description, helps out alot what we are downloading, either way, not trying to complain, so thank you.

Aaargh I don’t know why there’s a duplicate version!
worminbooks - you’ve been so good as to advise me thus far; would you have any idea why this is happening, even though there is only one version listed in my shared books list?
And please let me know of any of my already-posted books you would like in the nice shiny new format that I’ve learnt :-) The total time it will take me to convert them all now will probably be the same as the time to convert only one book in the manner I was doing it previously haha

@crucial89 yes, I will in future, thanks for the tip.
Would you also please let me know if you have any other suggestions to make my posts the best they can be? No point in doing something unless you do it properly :-)

@kfn1019
Don’t worry about the duplicate. It was probably a connection glitch.
I would be grateful if you could re-upload the Bryce Courtenay books, the C. J. Sansom books, The Goldfinch, and the Matthew Corbett books.
Oh my, that’s about all your recent uploads. Now you know how greedy I am. :)

I downloaded the original chapterized version of this series which I vastly prefer to the present format. Without an accompanying .cue file, it is tedious to do the extra work of chapterizing on my own. I appreciate that you uploaded separate files for separate chapters, because it makes searching for specific events so much easier.
Please know that not everyone wants one file for the entire book. There is always another side of every story.
Thanks for the work you do, and I hope you will consider posting the one file/one chapter versions in the future.

What was wrong with the original upload of this? Is this just a different format or were the files on the first upload incomplete or defective? Thanks for the sharing!

The single m4b file has internal chapter marks, which can be easily adjusted with inAudible, in case such adjustment is desirable.
When you got one file for each chapter, what are you gonna do if you needed to change the chapter arrangement?
December 3rd, 2020
The issue is one of usability. Anyone on any platform with any player can use one chapter one file. Any internal errors can be fixed with any audio editor. Files with internal markings can only be read by certain players on certain platforms. That’s why single chapter single file is preferable.
December 3rd, 2020
Aha - I thought that the single-file .m4b format which I’ve just learnt how to create was the gold standard, not knowing a lot about the whole formats topic in general.
So, what format should I adopt in future uploads?
One chapter, one file or one file with the chapter tags hidden inside? Or something else?
I’m now more confused than ever :-)
December 3rd, 2020
It’s really up to you. The people who have access to the internal markings probably prefer it. The rest of us who do not have that access much prefer single chapter single file. Even though it’s not as tidy as a single file, the people with the newest technology can still use single chapter single file. The rest of us will not be able to take advantage of your sharing because our players don’t search automatically.
My request is that you deliver the audiobooks in single chapter single file format so that everyone has access to it. Thank you and I look forward to being able to continue to enjoy your uploads.
December 3rd, 2020
For those of us without access to internal markings, there is a technology called a .cue file which some audio editors are able to use to automatically divide the larger file into chapters. if you search this site you will see many examples of single files. with a companying .cue files. It’s also true that when you upload single chapter single file, people who want a single file can use any audio editor to merge those files together. It’s really a question of who has to do the work. However a single file without a .cue file will shut out those of us who don’t have that technology. My guess is that we are in the majority, but I don’t know that for sure. Again you can be certain that everyone will have access if you use single chapter single file. And those who want a single file can merge the individual files easily.

Yet another benefit of single chapter single file is that it’s very quick to open a smaller file to see the sound level and how it needs to be adjusted for a particular player system. The one large file can take up to 10 minutes or more just to open to accurately check volume levels, as all devices do not have the same amplification capabilities.
Apologies if I’ve gone on too long with too much information, but I thought I’d give you as much information as I can. Please feel free to ask questions. I’ll check back here regularly. And thanks for all the sharing that you are doing.

nexus54 - thanks so much for the info. I’ve been googling like a maniac but I haven’t been able to find the answers to all my questions. So I am appreciating any and all advice you can throw my way! I also posted a question in the forum here, but have had no responses so far.
What you described about the playability on different platforms makes sense, as well as being able to check the file quality quickly without having to wait for the whole thing to download.
My questions, therefore, are:
1) Would it be better (in terms of accessibility for everyone) to just post one-chapter one-file mp3s? If yes or no, why so?
2) Would it be better to continue posting only in m4b format? Why?
3) Would it be acceptable/appropriate in terms of site etiquette to do 2 posts per book - the first with one-chapter one-file m4bs and the second with one file m4b with the hidden chapter tags inside as well as an accompanying .cue file? Is the latter the best solution to ensure as many people as possible have access to the formats they require?
I think that one post which included both arrangements wouldn’t be convenient as some torrent downloaders (especially on mobile phones) don’t give the option to choose which files to download, so one would be forced to download both and then delete the one not desired. Would you know if I am correct in thinking this?
For personal reasons, I feel very strongly about those with limited sight being able to access audiobooks. It has been a lifesaver for me and I suspect for many others who have trouble reading.
In addition, I have a lot of time on my hands and I enjoy the process of creating and sharing the pleasure that my fave books have given me, so posting in both configurations is no sweat.
Sorry if I’ve gone on this time! But I would be very grateful for any light you can shed on the topic - and of course anybody else who is reading this and has some info or an opinion to contribute.

kfn1019 - your questions are very good ones. To cut to the chase, I’m going to recommend that the format which provides greatest access to the greatest number of people who would enjoy these books is single chapter files in the MP3 format.
Audiobooks are also very important in my life and have provided access to entertainment, adventure, and knowledge which I would have been excluded from because of visual difficulties. Being something of a techie, I have enjoyed learning about the formats and how to convert between them.
Viewed from the point of view of greatest access to the greatest number, MP3 wins by a long shot. Viewed from the point of view of high-fidelity sound, m4b is superior. This would be especially true if music was what was being transmitted. But these are audiobooks and you would basically need an oscilloscope to analyze the very small degradation in voice quality when using MP3. When I download music, I look for FLAC files because of the quality of the sound. When listening to audiobooks I prefer MP3s with the highest volume compatible with understandability so that I can listen without earphones if I so choose. During the pandemic, I have spent many happy hours sharing audiobooks with my companion. It is so much easier to listen to the book together when it can be amplified on a single cell phone so that more than one can listen. MP3 files are accessible to everyone. M4b files chapterized are accessible, but not editable by all listeners. Large single files in m4b require a cue file and an audio editor to split them into individual chapters, which not everyone has or understands how to use.
Ultimately, I think it is a question of values. I am less interested in having the very best sound quality for voice recordings, than I am in having the books available to the most number of listeners. I cannot speak for audiobookbay, but I imagine it would be confusing to have duplicate uploads which differ only in sound format. Many novices would not notice what the differences are or which they should download.
If your goal is to be a Johnny Appleseed of favorite books and have the greatest impact on potential listeners, go with single chapter files in MP3 format. Those who are so fastidious that they would rather skip the book than settle for a slightly degraded sound quality will make that choice for themselves. Ready to use by everyone, seems to me an important value to maximize.
Please let me know if there are more issues. Though you make light of it saying you have time on your hands, the work you do to make these books available is a great service and I and many others are very grateful. Thank you.
