“In the depths of the Utah desert, long after the Flame Deluge has scoured the earth clean, a monk of the Order of Saint Leibowitz has made a miraculous discovery: holy relics from the life of the great saint himself, including the blessed blueprint, the sacred shopping list, and the hallowed shrine of the Fallout Shelter.
In a terrifying age of darkness and decay, these artifacts could be the keys to mankind’s salvation. But as the mystery at the core of this groundbreaking novel unfolds, it is the search itself—for meaning, for truth, for love—that offers hope for humanity’s rebirth from the ashes.
Seriously funny, stunning, and tragic, eternally fresh, imaginative, and altogether remarkable, A Canticle for Leibowitz retains its ability to enthrall and amaze. It is now, as it always has been, a masterpiece.”

An old favorite. Do you have any idea where to find the sequel?

Still one of the best books I’ve ever read. His only published work during his lifetime. The sequel was left incomplete, I think, at the time of his death, and brought to completion by another dude.

dark4eyes: There is supposed to be a 1998 recording of “Saint Leibowitz and the Wild Horse Woman” (13 cassettes narrated by Jonathan Marosz) by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind - but I’ve never seen it anywhere.

If you like this seek out The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell - also somewhere on this site.
If it’s not being seeded let me know and I’ll put it back up.

If you wander the desert for Leibowitz seek out the NPR Wisconsin adaptation from 1981.
