Hi everybody!

Does anyone have any good suggestions about Lovcraftian books?
I love the premise of elder gods and ancient mysteries, but it's very hard to rinse out these gems through the Audiobook Bay search engine.

Doesn't help that 90% of all "horror" books on the site are Zombie stories.

Presumably you tried a search like https://audiobookbay.lu/?s=lovecraft
The general search looks for the word in the title, author or description.

That finds about 80 titles.
Particularly
The Book of Cthulhu 1 - Ross E. Lockhart
The Book of Cthulhu 2 - Ross E. Lockhart

Some of the stories in :
The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - John Joseph Adams
particularly  Neil Gaiman's "A Study in Emerald"

and several books by Charles Stross, who is on my list of "to read" but I haven't got to yet.

The Dark Adventure Radio Theatre dramatisations of HPL stories are a real tour de force.

Thanks for your replies!

Indeed I've tried the usual search tricks.
Book of Cthulhu 1 and 2 of course and pretty much everything that points toward that genre.
Most recently "Southern Gods - John Hornor Jacobs" which was really good.
I also enjoyed Greig Beck's "Alex Hunter Series".
I've gone through some of Charles Stross's books, more specifically the Landry series, but I wasn't too fond of them. Too much comedy, too little immersion.

I'm afraid I've stopped listening to Radio dramas.
I'm sure much of it depends on the production, but in my experience too much of the books lore is scrapped.
For example: The Audiobook "Mountains of Madness" is 7h long.
The Radio Drama is 30min... =(

Will try to find Peter Clines - 14, though!
The premise sounds promising but the torrents here on ABB doesn't work.

The DART series are made by the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society
http://www.cthulhulives.org/radio/DART/

They do respect the work. Their Mountains of Madness is 75 minutes. They do them in the style of 1930s radio serials, and they've also made a couple of films in period style. And two albums of Christmas carols  like "The Great Old Ones Are Coming To Town". Though admittedly, these aren't really scary.

Another place to look is SFFAudio, which reviews all kinds of SF  and Fantasy audio.

Both! But the Dark Adventures sound really good. I wish the sample was longer. The newsreel was cool too...i like the looking through binoculars thing! I guess that was like 1930's cgi? Lol . If you have them would you make a torrent? You can dropbox half the files and I can help seed from the start. At least I'd like to hear the first one...was it Mountains of Madness? I LOVE stories with sound effects, if not over- done. GrapichAudio get excessive sometimes  Shocked  Angry  Cry

The first 10 DART stories are here:
https://audiobookbay.lu/audio-books/dark-adventure-radio-theatre-hp-lovecraft/
-- actually, taken from an upload I did elsewhere.... happy to see it get around.
They've done a few more since. Will look out for them.
It's very much "Old Time Radio" style. GA is basically a narration + sound effects, DART is a real dramatisation.

I can give a link for the musical albums later, but they're off topic for ABB torrents.

The Lovecraft musical albums:
http://www.cthulhulives.org/solstice/

This torrent has both albums in 192 kbps MP3: https://www.torlock.com/tor/446954.torrent

This one in FLAC: https://kat.cr/an-unbearably-scary-solstice-combo-t1791274.html

I'm seeding both currently.

Play them at Christmas, people don't even notice as they sound like the traditional carols until you start listening to the words.

Dallas 24.

I finally found the audiobook of "Peter Clines - 14" as you recommended.

I really, REALLY enjoyed it!   It was exactly what I was looking for.
I really love the mystery and exploration of the unknown, and it just got deeper and weirder with each chapter.
I really enjoy the vast superiority that the Old Ones represent and their view of humanity as nothing more than cattle/food.

I was wondering if you had any other suggestions on similar books?
It doesn't necessarily have to be in the Lovecraft Universe.

Anyways, thanks for the tip!

If you aren't familiar with Iain M Banks, give him a try. He writes space operas, but very literate, and some of his alien species and machine intelligences have a pretty Cthulhu-ish attitude to humanity.

Recent Cthulhu Mythos books:

Cthulhu Armageddon - C. T. Phipps
https://audiobookbay.lu/audio-books/cthulhu-armageddon-c-t-phipps/
CTHULHU ARMAGEDDON is the story of a world 100 years past the rise of the Old Ones which has been reduced to a giant monster-filled desert and pockets of human survivors (along with Deep Ones, ghouls, and other “talking” monsters).

That Which Should Not Be - Brett J. Talley
https://audiobookbay.lu/audio-books/that-which-should-not-be-brett-j-talley/
Miskatonic University has a long-whispered reputation of being strongly connected to all things occult and supernatural. From the faculty to the students, the fascination with other-worldly legends and objects runs rampant. So, when Carter Weston's professor Dr. Thayerson asks him to search a nearby village for a book that is believed to control the inhuman forces that rule the Earth, Incendium Maleficarum, the student doesn't hesitate to begin the quest.

Both upped by rachglo2626.
Neither of these look excessively literary, may be fun though.

The Elder Ice, A Harry Stubbs Adventure Book 1 - David Hambling
https://audiobookbay.lu/audio-books/the-elder-ice-a-harry-stubbs-adventure-book-1-david-hambling/
Shared by:rachglo2626
Length: 3 hrs

In this novella set in 1924 London, ex-boxer Harry Stubbs is on the trail of a mysterious legacy. A polar explorer has died, leaving huge debts and hints of a priceless find. His informants seem to be talking in riddles, and Harry soon finds he isn't the only one on the trail - and what he's looking for is as lethal as it is valuable. The key to the enigma lies in an ancient Arabian book and it leads to something stranger and more horrifying than Harry could ever imagine.

Harry may not be an educated man, but he has an open mind, the bulldog persistence and fists like pile drivers - useful assets when you're boxing the darkest of shadows.

The story of mystery and horror draws on H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos and is inspired by Ernest Shackleton's incredible real-life adventures.

Here's one though not exactly what you want maybe is described as "Deadwood meets Cthulhu"

Deadman's Road
Written by: Joe R. Lansdale
Narrated by: Stefan Rudnicki
Length: 8 hrs and 17 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release Date:05-01-14
Publisher: Skyboat Media, Inc.
4.20 (70 ratings)

Wild and profane Western romp featuring zombies, werewolves, evil spirits, and one pissed-off gunslinging preacher.
The Wild West has never seen the likes of the Reverend Jebidiah Mercer, a hard man wielding a burning Bible in the battle between God and the devil, in an endless struggle he's not sure he cares who wins. With its five stories laced with fast-paced action, nonstop humor, and spine-tingling horror, Deadman's Road is your ride to hell, in which a vengeful shaman curses a town by conjuring a seemingly unstoppable army of the undead; an ill-advised shortcut leads to a bees' nest of terror; a man stands condemned, not for murdering his wife but for raising the Lovecraftian horror that killed her; a woman is attacked by werewolves and left for dead in a ghost town; and a mining camp faces off with a horde of cannibalistic fiends.

A new (to me) mythos series, by Ruthanna Emrys.

Winter Tide (The Innsmouth Legacy #1) - Ruthanna Emrys
Shared by:2Min15  19 Aug 2017

Review: https://www.tor.com/2017/04/03/book-reviews-winter-tide-by-ruthanna-emrys/
"this novel incorporates elements of Lovecraftian horror, the story she’s telling isn’t a fundamentally horrific one. Instead, it’s a kind of supernatural procedural—and one in which Emrys makes the subversive decision to treat figures who might have been deemed monstrous in Lovecraft’s work as the heroes, and the mysterious beings and ancient gods that were the source of so much dread as a means of transcendence."

Note: there is an earlier short story featuring the main character, can read it here: https://www.tor.com/2014/05/14/the-litany-of-earth-ruthanna-emrys/

Update: sequel now out
Deep Roots: Innsmouth Legacy, Book 2 - Ruthanna Emrys
Shared by:whackbag 14 Aug 2018

Ruthanna Emrys’ Innsmouth Legacy, which began with Winter Tide and continues with Deep Roots, confronts H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos head-on, boldly upturning his fear of the unknown with a heart-warming story of found family, acceptance, and perseverance in the face of human cruelty and the cosmic apathy of the universe. Emrys brings together a family of outsiders, bridging the gaps between the many people marginalized by the homogenizing pressure of 1940s America.

Aphra Marsh, descendant of the People of the Water, has survived Deep One internment camps and made a grudging peace with the government that destroyed her home and exterminated her people on land. Deep Roots continues Aphra’s journey to rebuild her life and family on land, as she tracks down long-lost relatives. She must repopulate Innsmouth or risk seeing it torn down by greedy developers, but as she searches she discovers that people have been going missing. She will have to unravel the mystery, or risk seeing her way of life slip away.

I thought this was an excellent anti-racist homage to Lovecraftian horror.

https://audiobookbay.lu/audio-books/lovecraft-country-matt-ruff/

Lovecraft Country
Written by Matt Ruff
Read by Kevin Kenerly
Format: MP3
Bitrate: 64 Kbps
Unabridged

Chicago, 1954. When his father Montrose goes missing, 22-year-old Army veteran Atticus Turner embarks on a road trip to New England to find him, accompanied by his Uncle George—publisher of The Safe Negro Travel Guide—and his childhood friend Letitia. On their journey to the manor of Mr. Braithwhite—heir to the estate that owned one of Atticus’s ancestors—they encounter both mundane terrors of white America and malevolent spirits that seem straight out of the weird tales George devours.

At the manor, Atticus discovers his father in chains, held prisoner by a secret cabal named the Order of the Ancient Dawn—led by Samuel Braithwhite and his son Caleb—which has gathered to orchestrate a ritual that shockingly centers on Atticus. And his one hope of salvation may be the seed of his—and the whole Turner clan’s—destruction.

A chimerical blend of magic, power, hope, and freedom that stretches across time, touching diverse members of two black families, Lovecraft Country is a devastating kaleidoscopic portrait of racism—the terrifying specter that continues to haunt us today.

Lovecraft Country
Yeah, was pretty good, at least the first stories. Seemed to lose steam in the latter half.
This has been "greenlit" for a TV series. Might be the first Lovecraftian TV series, I think.
(Unless you count "Ash vs Evil Dead".)
