I would love advice on how to make connections when trying to share.
advice:
There's not a lot to setup on the client other than port forwarding.
UPnP should manage this but like most automated things I end up doing things manually but you can try enabling UPnP on torrent software and your router.
Make a note of any changes made so you can undo things if you have problems.
Regardless what way you do your port forwarding your VPN provider also needs to have this port forwarded in their VPN tunnel. I use UDP as the protocol but TPC works ok just be consistent with your choice. It's normally just a case of ticking a box, enter the port number and select protocol on your account page on their website (not on your VPN client software)
You can check your handy work see "Checking things" section below.
or
The more involved manual way is (if your unsure dont mess with things)
You need to either manually set an internal static IP to your seeding PC or reserve an IP via the DHCP server on your router. If you don't and your internal IP changes then the port would be forwarded to the wrong address.
Whatever port your using on your torrent client needs to be forwarded on your router to your PC's IP address all routers have this feature even ISP provided ones. You will need to decide on a Protocol either TCP or UDP. Personally i use UDP. As i said above remember to enable port forwarding in the tunnel on your VPN providers page.
It's far too involved to make a step by step guide as every router,VPN provider is different but the basics are the same. My instructions are what i do, if you mess up its on you sorry I just don't have the time fix everyone's setup.
Checking things. You can check things here
https://ipleak.net/ after starting your VPN software open a fresh browser then click the link and check to see if your REAL ip is hidden also check the WebRTC to make sure you have no leaks while your at it.
About halfway down they have "Torrent Address detection" with your torrent client running click activate then the magnet link, either wait a few mins or click refresh and you should see your torrent client reported IP address and the port you forwarded. If the IP and port reported matches what you use then all is good.
You can use ipleak.net "Torrent Address detection" regardless if you port forward with UpnP or set manually and it works with any VPN provider.
hope it helps
