UPDATED July 2024
ABB recommended trackers --  July 2024

This list of ten public trackers is recommended for uploaders.
Periodically updated as they become unresponsive.

I delete dead ones and replace with currently reliable trackers (from https://newtrackon.com/ which tests trackers) to make a new list of 10. Includes some http trackers for those with problems using udp.

Code:
udp://bt1.archive.org:6969/announce

http://tracker.bt4g.com:2095/announce

http://tracker.files.fm:6969/announce

http://tracker2.dler.org:80/announce

udp://exodus.desync.com:6969/announce

udp://open.stealth.si:80/announce

udp://tracker.dler.org:6969/announce

udp://tracker.opentrackr.org:1337/announce

udp://tracker.tiny-vps.com:6969/announce

udp://tracker.torrent.eu.org:451/announce

When using uTorrent to create a new torrent it will use the same trackers you last used by default, I assume other clients are similar.
Best to delete all the old ones and paste in the new list. (You may need to add  a blank line between them in your client.)

Trackers are dying off more often, and many are flaky, not online 100%.
So we do have to renew the recommended trackers list periodically.
A couple of things to note: trackers really aren't vital, since all torrents must have DHT. Now you cannot upload a torrent set "private" (no DHT).

There is no requirement to have trackers at all; we just provided the list as many asked for guidance.

Also, when you download a .torrent file, the site will inject the current trackers into it. (This can be done since the tracker list does not affect the infohash.) That doesn't really help old torrents, as any old seeders will not have got those trackers. So when you see an old, private torrent from years ago here and think that at least it has some good trackers so it might work; it almost certainly will not, because only those who recently got the torrent file will be using the new trackers.

You are free to add any trackers of your own if for some reason you really want to. But Please do not have more than 20 trackers total.
We have a few torrents with hundreds of trackers (always more than half dead), because some uploaders believe that if they add every tracker they ever come across that it will help downloaders -- it won't. Just clutters up the web page listing and wastes some time as your client tests them every few minutes.

But do not add any private trackers -- these only work for members of the associated website.

The hope was that DHT would make trackers redundant; but a few trackers don't do any harm and when they work are faster than DHT to get it started, (though make no difference to download speed once you have found some seeds).
A few people are using ISPs that block UDP, and DHT depends on that, so they can only use trackers. But most trackers now use UDP so I try to find some that use http.

The tracker testing site: https://newtrackon.com/ periodically tests trackers and reports their uptime.

All the list above are rated above 95% online as of writing.

If you have an old torrent or one copied from elsewhere, you can update the trackers: see
How to change the trackers in an existing torrent file.

Made a new tracker list; kept the old ones still working and added a few more, total 10 including 3 http ones for those who need them.

Can you let us know when it is updated on the main site, so we don't need to come in here to get them when we post? Thanks!

You don't have to wait, you can use these now. It's just the "recommended" list they show you when you are uploading.
Though I think they add them to your torrents now as well.
Anyway, just paste these in from now on. I have deleted the old dead ones so don't keep any of those.
When I use uTorrent, it just uses the same trackers as the last torrent I made, so you don't need to paste them in every time after you change them.

I know I can use them now. What I was asking was if you could update us when they are live on the site, so that we don't need to come in here every time. When I use a torrent program it also keeps them in memory, but this isn't the only tracker I use, so the info changes depending on where and what I post.

OK, so you paste them in each time.

I expect the site will be updated within a week.

Yep, that's what I'm doing. Would just be nice to know when I can trust the site is updated, so I can just take from there. A week sound good. Not too long to wait, thanks.

Just a reminder: This (list) update is only for people that upload new book torrents.  Kiss

A new record: this torrent has 350 trackers.
Of which 206 are dead.

Such a waste. The torrent app will try to connect to all of those every x minutes for everyone sharing it...forever. Magnets are "lighter" than relying on a tracker and lighter on your device cpu/bandwidth.

Yes. Look at the "Log" tab and you see all the DNS resolution failures; i.e., non-existent trackers.

When I have an active torrent, downloading or seeding, I look at the trackers tab and delete any dead ones.

6 of our 10 used trackers are dead at the time of this post.
Thankfully DHT saves the day.

Code:
http://tracker.bt4g.com:2095/announce  Peers6 field is of invalid length

http://tracker.files.fm:6969/announce offline (timed out)

udp://bt1.archive.org:6969/announce Failure: Connection timed out.

udp://exodus.desync.com:6969/announce Connection timed out.

udp://open.stealth.si:80/announce Connection timed out.

udp://tracker.torrent.eu.org:451/announce Connection timed out.

6 of our 10 used trackers are dead at the time of this post.

I see 8 out of 10 working in qbittorrent.

Two were unresponsive:
udp://bt1.archive.org:6969/announce
http://tracker.files.fm:6969/announce

All the others found at least one peer, eventually.

The first could be a casualty of the outage at archive.org, they were knocked out for several days and still not fully back.
That might come back.

I checked them all at https://newtrackon.com/

These are dodgy or dead:
udp://bt1.archive.org:6969/announce    0.00%    Down for 29 days
http://tracker.files.fm:6969/announce    15.90%    Down for 17 days
http://tracker2.dler.org:80/announce no listing
udp://tracker.dler.org:6969/announce  no listing
udp://tracker.tiny-vps.com:6969/announce    Tracker rejected for having an interval shorter than 5 minutes or longer than 3 hours

The last 3 though were working in qbittorrent.

These 5 are close to 100%
http://tracker.bt4g.com:2095/announce    99.80%    Working for 8 days
udp://exodus.desync.com:6969/announce    99.90%    Working for 6 days
udp://open.stealth.si:80/announce    100.00%    Working for 24 days
udp://tracker.opentrackr.org:1337/announce    100.00%    Working for 29 days
udp://tracker.torrent.eu.org:451/announce    99.80%    Working for 16 days

Anyway, will give these some time to see if they come back. One working tracker is enough, we have at least 5 good ones.

It's only 4 months since the last update, previously was 2 years and only two needed to be replaced then. We've just got most uploaders updated on the last set recently.
