I really enjoyed "Lost in Space" and I've been searching for a book series that isn't hard sci/fi and focuses more on the "adventure" genre, just happening in space, possibly unexplored space. I feel like the new Star Trek and the Guardians of the Galaxy movies have had a good interpretation of what I am looking for. Humor and action are definitely appreciated. Any ideas, gang?

Columbus Day: Expeditionary Force, Book 1
https://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Columbus-Day-Audiobook/B01N48VJFJ

First half is your typical military Sci-Fi (just hang in there) then half way in something happens and it turns into an epic sci-fi adventure of awesomeness.

Some Sci-fi humor with cursing that only adds to the fun are:

Death Ship: Kill Count

Willful Child

The Reluctant Adventures of Fletcher Connolly on the Interstellar Railroad

Came in here to suggest Expeditionary Force, but got beat to it. Honestly it's such a fantastic series. Skippy for president.

I haven't heard of the rest Whackbag suggests, so I can't comment on those.

Another good suggestion would be the Bobiverse series.

Hilarious. Can't recommend it enough.

Initial seed is still underway, but this sounds interresting as well if you like it Firefly-ish, with less Military/Sci and more Space Opera/Fi:

I liked Metal Boxes... https://audiobookbay.lu/?s=metal+boxes

Samples: https://www.audible.com/search/ref=a_hp_tseft?advsearchKeywords=Metal%20boxes&filterby=field-keywords ...(the books are better than the samples).

A Bertram Chandler's "John Grimes" series:
https://audiobookbay.lu/?s=grimes+chandler

Old-school space adventures written by an Australian sea captain. Was very popular in the 1960s-1980s.
Plenty of jokes and parodies, but usually with a decent plot behind it.
info here: http://www.bertramchandler.com/magazine/article557.aspx
All now on Audible.

First one: https://audiobookbay.lu/audio-books/john-grimes-01-the-road-to-the-rim-audibleversion-a-bertram-chandler/
“The Road to the Rim” has the very young Ensign Grimes setting out as a passenger en route to join his first Survey Service posting, but on the way there is an encounter with pirates. The first half seems at times quaint, with details like smoking pipes and cigars in space seeming unlikely, but when the action starts it’s quite gripping.
