I've recently been on a SciFi binge. In the last month I've listened to:

We are legion/we are bob (the whole series): 3.5/5
Expeditionary force (the whole series): 3/5. If it was condensed into a single book without the fluff I'd give it a 4.5/5
Seeker: 4/5
Time frame: 3.5/5
Split Second: 4/5
Quantum space (whole series): 4.5/5

I'm looking for something along these lines: a smart scifi with "oh snap" type of revelations that put everything into perspective without being deus ex machinas. I am open to pure fantasy along those lines too. I highly enjoyed the Stormlight Archives and (to a lesser extent) the Mistborn series.

I've been reading SF for about 50 years but don't recognise any of those titles.

What are they? Military SF?

Expeditionary Force is a military SF. You could also probably categorize Seeker as a military SF.
All these books are relatively new (like, in the last 10 years). I have no problem with older books (so long as they are not dated) if you'd like to recommend some Smiley

My suggestion: Goodreads have "lists". Using your favorite books find a list that has them all and check what is on the top. Reviews and rating will help. Than check if audiobook exist (most have) and etc.

This is old but super popular.

I read new stuff, but can't keep track of every author.
Anyway, if you like military SF, you're probably familiar with these; if not, give them a try:

Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" (almost nothing like the movie), basically the Pacific war in space

Joe Haldeman "The Forever War", which is a reply to the above, written by a Vietnam vet.

Gordon R Dickson's "Dorsai" series -- space mercenaries.

James A Comey: The Expanse series (as seen on TV.... hard SF, the tech and weapons are [pretty realistic, mostly Cold War, but occasionally goes hot.)

As far as Military Sci-Fi goes I'd recommend the following:

Obviously read the first book for a taste.  Like any long series I tend to take a break after 5 books, go back.  I've been into military scifi for a long time and have read most of the older stuff foundation series etc.  I'd say this list is the best of the last 10 years.

Aurora Frontiers Saga - Ryk Brown

Black Fleet Trilogy - Joshua Dalzelle

Ark Royal - Christopher G. Nuttall

Space Carrier Avalon - Glynn Stewart

Starship's Mage Omnibus - Glynn Stewart (Sounds weird...but soo good)

Dauntless - The Lost Fleet - Jack Campbell (One of the best)

Cheers
