As the title says, I'm looking for recommendations on books by POC about POC and written with a POC audience in mind.

I teach in a 4th-8th grade school library and the librarian before me loaded the catalog down with Hardy Boys, Anne of Green Gables, and Baby Sitters Club (in spite of the fact that the students are significantly younger than 60 and almost exclusively black and hispanic). These books DO NOT CIRCULATE at this school.

The only books that seem to have been purchased with our school community in mind are the Bluford High series which is...problematic, to say the least.

My students aren't really too much into fantasy (that sound you just heard was my nerdy heart breaking). The most popular stuff is over-the-top ridiculous humor (think Diary of a Wimpy Kid), romantic drama, and anything that'll make them go "EEWWWWW!!! (I swear, the easiest way to advertise a book in my library is to get ONE 8th grade boy to say "ew" while reading it and suddenly there's a queue a mile-long).
