I think the guy you find on Ancient Aliens and other History channel shows. Because academics most definitely do not think Jesus was an absolutely real historical character. They would all tell you there is ZERO evidence for a real jesus. Where are these academics of yours in this case? Ehrman? Ya, Ancient Aliens like i said.
@trax0r: What have you read of Ehrman that you think he would double down on a historical Jesus? From the couple books I've read, I don't get that impression at all.
