Elric of MelnibonéThe Elric stories, published intermittently throughout his career, were Moorcock's first consequential work. At their heart lies the albino melancholic Elric of Melniboné, a treacherous figure who is in a sense the minion of his own supernatural Chaos-inducing sword. The tales comprise a sustained critique and parody of the Sword-and-Sorcery brand of heroic fantasy.
The Elric saga was written over more than 60 years beginning with "The Dreaming City" (1961). The most recent entry “The Folk of the Forest” (2023). These were not written in chronological order. Moorcock revised and reordered and presented the stories in many different forms.
