I literally just checked search functions yesterday. lol So details... Where were you searching from? The forum Search Tab or from the Request A Audiobook topic search? Also what was the search term so I can test it.

Okay, so this is really annoying! Last night I was surfing the torrent website and didn't find an audiobook I was looking for, so then I click on the 'Request' link in the menu at the very top of every page, which takes you to " https://audiobookbay.lu/forum/general-requests/". I searched for "Building Harem Town" there, and didn't see it, but to make sure, I searched for "Dungeon Heart", which I KNEW was there, and it didn't show up either. Then, after searching a few sub-forums, I found both of those audiobook requests. At first, when I saw your questions, I thought that that might have been the problem, that searching from " https://audiobookbay.lu/forum/general-requests/" doesn't work, but from " https://audiobookbay.lu/forum/index.php?board=8.0" (where you go when you go to the forum main page and click on 'Request An Audiobook') does, but no, when I checked them just now, they both work!!! Did you try to fix/change anything since I put up my last message, or is the search engine just jerking my chain now?!?

Did you try to fix/change anything since I put up my last message, or is the search engine just jerking my chain now?!? No but it's possible the coder was tinkering. The site was acting strange last night and would not allow me to reply to you then. Often I think the forum code is sentient, and evil, and is indeed chain jerking us.

Well, I hope things continue to work, it's not really all that useful if the search engine only works some of the time, since that means that I have to check every time if it's working now, and if I'm going to be doing that, there's no point in even bothering in the first place! Often I think the forum code is sentient, and evil, and is indeed chain jerking us. I have no ideas what this 'chain jerking' that you speak of is, and something tells me I don't want too! And I also hope the forum code stops jerking our chains (or at least mine, yours can do whatever you want)!

Angry Did you try to fix/change anything since I put up my last message, or is the search engine just jerking my chain now?!? Your words, not mine. Not quite! I don't know if English isn't your first language, but there's BIG difference between that and: Often I think the forum code is sentient, and evil, and is indeed chain jerking us. Notice the word order. If something's "jerking my chain", then that thing is metaphorically messing with me and giving me a hard time (for some history, see: https://www.quora.com/Where-does-the-phrase-just-yanking-your-chain-come-from). On the other hand, "chain jerking" isn't an English idiom, but because of English grammar, this order can't mean the same thing as the reverse. Worse, in English slang, 'jerking' can mean masturbating ... so if someone else is 'chain jerking' you then they're ... somehow using a chain on your ... to ... and that's where I'm throwing in the towel and calling it quits, I can't imagine what the heck that is, and I don't want too!!!

Wait seriously, that's how you took that? More sex ore less sex...you need one of those. "Jerking my chain" is when it's happening to you (receiving-end). Chain jerking is when you're doing it to someone else (the giving-end). Ex. Hey, can we dispense with the chain jerking? ... and the towel throwing?

I'm sorry, but you don't get to make up what an idiom means. They get their meanings from cultural history, that's the reason why everyone understands what you mean when you say them!

But I'm not making up an idiom. You introduced the idiom into the context of the conversation and I'm referencing it in a broader sense...not pertaining to you "jerking my chain" or me "jerking your chain" but to "chain jerking" as a general action or practice.

You should visit Urban Dictionary. People make up and redefine idioms there all the time. Mostly in the most disgusting and sexually explicit way possible.

And those can make for great inside jokes, but communication depends upon shared understanding. You can make up new meanings, and these new meanings may even become mainstream, but until they do don’t expect some random stranger to know what the heck you’re talking about, because you won’t be communicating!
