Roark von Graf - hedge mage and lesser noble of Traisbin - is one of only a handful of Freedom fighters left, and he knows the Resistance’s days are numbered. Unless they do something drastic…
But when a daring plan to unseat the Tyrant King goes awry, Roark finds himself on the run through an interdimensional portal, which strands him in a very unexpected location: an ultra-immersive fantasy video game called Hearthworld. He can’t log out, his magic is on the fritz, and, worst of all, he’s not even human. He’s a low-class, run-of-the-mill Dungeon monster. Some disgusting, blue-skinned creature called a Troll. At least there’s one small silver lining - Roark managed to grab a powerful magic artifact on his way through the portal, and with it he might just be able to save his world after all.
Unless, of course, the Tyrant King gets to him first…
From James A. Hunter, author of the litRPG epic Viridian Gate Online, and eden Hudson, author of Legend of the Treesinger and the Jubal Van Zandt Series, comes an exciting new litRPG, dungeon-core adventure you won’t want to put down!
“An excellent start to a series, this book has everything I look for in a fantasy novel: action, intrigue, and evolution!” (Dakota Krout, author of the Divine Dungeon and the Completionist Chronicles)

Because its awesome!

It’s like when vampires were suddenly in EVERY book. It’s a fad that will fade, though there are enough good books in that style that it’s not going away any time soon.

Torrent is good and the file worked just fine. The story was good enough that I listened straight through once I started so thank you for sharing.

Why so many video game books?
Reality isn’t matching demand
The world wants fully immersive vr gaming, but alas processing power and the human brain is keeping us from it
So we read books about games we wish we were playing

Vamo, because LitRPG is one of the fastest growing markets in books at the moment, they are set in these settings because they are selling, its what many of us want ot read and hear.
I love my VR headset, but there is yet to be a decent VR MMO

LitRPGs are quite fun with the right author. Haven’t had a chance to give this one a listen just yet. Soulstone and Divine Dungeon series are a blast.

I like LitRPGs but prefer the type that don’t have the videogame angle thrown in. All the level ups and what not are just accepted as part of life and its not someone from the real world playing a game or getting trapped in one. The genre is getting so overdone it will crash if some originality doesn’t come along. There are only a handful of plots/scenarios and a lot of authors are shamelessly ripping each other off to crank out books asap.
I’ll probably check this book out tonight and will rate later.

The land is probably the best I have read. A lot are translated, makes me think we are importing this fad.

LitRPG got huge in Russia. In Japan, Isekai has been one of the largest genres for decades in fantasy. (Isekai is a genre where a modern day person is whisked away to a far away land, often times to story-book worlds, games, or lands of favorite TV shows)
The trend wasnt so much imported, but both the Russians and the Japanese have a rather large backlog of stuff that fits or loosely fits this genre.

LitRPG is Fantasy Lite. Or Sub-par fantasy. It is only a fastly growing genre because a lot of new/amateur fantasy authors are using this medium to start. Sadly, it is largely filled with books in much need of an editor or even a decent thesaurus would do in a pinch.
You will have to sift thru the piles of bad writing to find the gems in the pot. When you do find one however they are at least entertaining.
The only thing you have to look out for is the standard problems in LitRPG. Which are too many stats and skills, sometimes spanning 10+ pages… constant need to find higher level enemies/MoBs when supposedly one almost never sees a level 100 human only 20 chapters later they are facing hordes of 200+ humans…. Some authors work around or explain this well but this is why books like the 10 Realms make more sense even tho Michael Chatfield is in DIRE need of an editor.
If you do like LitRPG but dislike the stats go for progression or wuxia fantasy. If you still like LitRPG despite the common flaws places like the RoyalRoad may be right up your alley. There are a surprising amount of good works there and the community both helps you find some and rates the stories as well.
A few recommendations: The Azarinth Healer, The Primal Hunter, Bushido Online, and Mother of Learning.
MoL is progression fantasy and the narrator for audiobook cannot do female voices to save his life. But it is still a really good story and you can read it all on RoyalRoad. And if you have been living under a rock I also highly recommend the Cradle Series by Will Wight. The audiobooks are narrated by Travis Baldtree and he does a great job. The first is mostly an introduction then books 2-8 are great, followed by a crappy 9, but then book 10 leaves all the others in the dust.
Happy Listening/Reading!
