I really wanted to believe that this could be a better book than the trainwreck of “writing” that was the last one.
OMG its arguably WORSE than the Archmage rebirth one. This author still liberally uses “guys”, but not nearly as bad as the “author” of the last book. It is the constant repetition of words in the same sentence, or the constant awkward dialogue.
Is this AI slop?

Not necessarily. I find that when I write I focus on the little bit I’m writing at that time so I have a tendency to overuse words without noticing, because I’m not paying as much attention to what I HAVE written as to what I’m writing NOW. It is possible that the author does this as well, but does NOT believe in the degree of editing needed to fix issues like this. Because really, it doesn’t matter HOW the issue arose, whether it was AI or careless writing… EDITING would have fixed it.
Not everything bad you stumble across need be caused by LLM’s. Humans can screw plenty of things up on their own, especially if insufficient quality control was applied.
That said, not having listened to the audiobook myself, I have no direct experience with the problem you describe or to what extent it might exist, so I’m merely speculating. That said, it’s generally unwise to jump to conclusions.
