If you liked Dune, Atlantis Gene, and Star Wars - you will love the book Battlefield Earth!
In the year AD 3000, Earth is a dystopian wasteland, plundered of its natural resources by alien conquerors known as Psychlos. Fewer than 35,000 humans survive in a handful of communities scattered across the face of a post-apocalyptic Earth.
From the ashes of humanity rises a young hero, Jonnie Goodboy Tyler. Setting off on an initial quest to discover a hidden evil, Jonnie unlocks the mystery of humanity’s demise and unearths a crucial weakness in their oppressors. Spreading the seeds of revolt, Jonnie and a small band of survivors pit their quest for freedom in an all-out rebellion that erupts across the continents of Earth and the cosmic sprawl of the Psychlo empire.
For the fate of the Galaxy lies on the Battlefield of Earth.

They spared no expense for this embarrassing turd. Putting that scientology money to “good” use.

Not defending Scientology or whatever, but when it comes to fiction, I’m sorry but I’m going to trust Neil Gaiman’s, Brandon Sanderson’s, and Robert Heinlein’s opinion more than random faceless dudes that have nothing better to do than spreading negative vibes over the internet.
Cheers!

The movie was supposed to be epically bad.

After researching scientology I can’t even watch Tom Cruise movies.

thx
Anyone has an (high quality) unabridged mission earth?

@ jerommeke987:
I read somewhere (a couple of years ago, maybe more) that book one was in production, and have looked around for it several time since with no luck.
Amazon actually has it listed, but shows it as “unavailable”.
https://www.amazon.com/Invaders-Plan-Audiobook-Confesses-Mission/dp/1619865408
Just did a search and found the original article I read about the production. (85 voice actors, including Rudnicki).

I hope they get their act together and push through ALL 10 SOON!!!!

makes one wonder how much they payed for the glowing recommendations.
in any case: the book obvoiusly tries to promote hobbards crazy thoughts about people being brainwashed and controlled by evil psycatrists and psychologists. it clearly has intentions to promote these thoughts in the readers mind.
however, it mostly does so by naming simmilarities (the evil psychlo aliends themself being controlled by the ubar evil Psychlo Catrists (yeah…))
imo its doubtfull this book is very effective in this role however, i doubt it would change the oppinions an adult with developed world view.
however, the big elephant obviously being: does it tell an enjoyable and interesting story? i would say clearly not. the characters are 100% one dimensional black and white, either fully good or fully evil. there is no tension or doubt or anything that would make it interesting. the storry is totally predicable and thous utterly borring. its also way to long for what little it tells.

I think the movie was incredibly third-rate.

Dorothy Parker - allegedly - said it best: “This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force”

Regardless of whether this book reflects Hubbard’s Scientology beliefs, there is a reason it’s called “Science Fiction” … Fiction, the clue is in the genre.
Movie sucked balls, but the book is pretty decent FICTION! Just like Scientology, fiction.
Just sayin’.

Ok, you folks have scared me off the audiobook. I confess that, though I have no more affection for Scientology than I do for Christianity, I actually liked the movie.

@ JustRandy LOL if you actually liked the movie then you’ll love the book since the movie was only about the first half of the book.

Forget all the negative nay Sayers , forget about the fact it is linked to L Ron Hubbard ,founder of Scientology . There has even been some doubt as to who wrote this book .The movie was garbage ,sorry John T. But the fact remains this is a great Science Fiction novel , a stand alone great ripping yarn ,with great characters , a forerunner to all the space opera’s that has come since .And as ”motorbit” says very black and white , Still a great yarn . ENJOY.

Thank you Haru55!!

I can´t imagine Scientology caring enough about psychology to create believable and interesting characters for a story this long, but I´ll surely give it a try. Maybe there´ll be some dialogues to make me laugh out loud. All in all for me it´s more interesting to listen to a story by Scientology than by most bestseller writers. As if they had interesting characters and original story plots. Thanks for the upload!

The movie may have been absolute garbage, but despite the dubious sanity and/or morality of the author, this is actually a pretty fun sci-fi action romp.
February 22nd, 2021
probably the worst books i ever read
February 22nd, 2021
Did the author know it was fiction, or was old papa Hubbard even deluding himself.
February 23rd, 2021
Unlike people who fear that can be “converted” by just reading a book, whatever this books is offering wont deter me from listening to it.
The 47 odd hours might.

Terrible book series. A complete waste of time, unless your into pedophilia hidden in sci-fi.
February 24th, 2021
All the scientology aside this isn’t that bad . I’ve heard worse audiobooks . Thank you for the upload Haru

@ craigpaul WTF were you reading, because it wasn’t this F#CKING book. I’m not sure there is even a SEX seen in this book (it’s been about a decade since my last go). the main chara. has a love interest, but SHE IS NOT A CHILD you f’ing Perv. IF that’s what you got out of it, you should seek help.

Going by what I learned from South Park I have no idea how this book would help Scientology other than maybe with money.
The story is pretty good but the vocabulary is weak along with his knowledge of science.
When I was reading this I was reading other authors who also write science text books like Isaac Asimov.
Good world building, good action(first half), has politics, has economics but like I said the science it weak. I say its worth a read, if you read books.

it just goes to show how epic of a disaster the movie was. because this was one of my all time favorite books as a kid
June 26th, 2021
Its kind of good book if you are not much in to logic and stuff like that.
Story is well written and really good, in the childish way.
This book is its own kind of experience between delightful and horrific.

First. This is not Mission Earth(the 10 book serie) that slowly deteriorated into madness(Hubbards own madness, I guess!)
But it’s actually quite a good book. It’s a bit long, but I really enjoyed it(have read it a few times now!).
If you forget the author and remember it was written before he went totally loony! Also, I prefer the unabridged version. But still a great book.

Hell of a great book that I have read numerous times since the early 80s.
A must read for an enjoyable story..
January 17th, 2022
I read this book years ago as a much younger adult. I thought, though a bit long winded it isn’t awful.
My wife disagreed, but I still stand beside that opinion. As far as sci fi operas go, it really isn’t bad.
April 23rd, 2022
considering the age of the book, it isn’t all that bad. If you want to try something absurd, try the “Mission Earth” series.
Might anyone have “Ai! Pedrito!” my tape copy has gone bad.
Thanks for posting.

I was a teenager when I first read this and was mildly amused at the names of the characters.
I presumed it was supposed to be taken tongue in cheek.
Didn’t know or care about scientologists & still dont.
It is a long predictable listen (or read) and very much chewing gum for the adolescent brain.
Having said that I have re listened but with generous applications of the fast forward button
And its free …. So no problems

The scarey thing is that guillable people still swallow this hook, line and sinker. It should be religated to the shredder.
December 31st, 2023
yeah gimpo, err, gymp, lets start banning books for the safety of others, nothing at all wrong with that take
