Over at Slough House, where Jackson Lamb presides over some of MI5’s most embittered demoted agents, the slow horses are doing what they do best, and adding a little bit of chaos to an already unstable situation . . .
There are bad actors everywhere, and they usually get their comeuppance before the credits roll. But politics is a dirty business, and in a world where lying, cheating and backstabbing are the norm, sometimes the good guys can find themselves outgunned.

I’ve just finished Bad Actors and feel like I have lost a good friend. I didn’t quite go back to the beginning and start it again, although I did stop part way into it and go listen to Slough House to remind me of the plot, and then start this book at the beginning again. Mick Herron has John Lecarre’s amazing way with words to create beautiful prose, but has a special type of humour no one else can quite match. His characters are also worldly wise and full of wit, and that wit was obviously the author’s before it belonged to Jackson Lamb, Or Shirley — who really shone in Bad Actors. Right now, Herron is my favourite author by a comfortable margin, and I can barely wait for his next book.

Just seen that the next book in the series ‘Nobody Walks’ has been released, so looking forward to finding it on ABB. I watched the first episode od season 2 of the TV series last night (I waited till they were all available so we could watch them without a break) and it is excellent. I love that Mick Jagger likes the books so much, he agreed to do the theme song, and that’s perfect as well. Books don’t come better than this.
